'Tis The Season

I was feeling a little crafty last weekend so this is what I did:

It's a Christmas Countdown Chain! I have three categories: red is something I love or appreciate (concrete), green is something I love or appreciate (abstract), and blue is a small act of kindness that I have challenged myself to do that day.

These are all of the "items" lined up.

So, I will cut one off of the chain (they were put into the chain in a random order) each day, as a countdown to Christmas. I'm hoping that it will bring me a little bit of happiness and gratitude in this season that is so marred by consumerism and greed. I'm dorky, I know, but I want this chain to remind me that there are a lot of big, important things that may be forgotten in the stress of finals and end-of-semester drama.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Bicentennial Picture

So, remember when I mentioned that this is Colby's Bicentennial? Well, part of the celebration included a HUGE picture of the entire student body during the halftime of the Colby-Bowdoin football game. The picture will be put in a time capsule for generations of colby students to open up at the Tricentennial 100 years from now. Pretty cool to know that I was a part of something like that!

This is the Football coach receiving an award for his excellence at Colby and beyond

The picture for the capsule, from a different angle.

Good looking crew.

Real good looking.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I know Thanksgiving is technically tomorrow, but I just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving!

Last year I was having Thanksgiving with some lovely people in a country halfway around the world. My how time flies!

1. Family
2. Really good friends
3. The smell of candles
4. Professors who think outside of the box
5. Good books (and reading for fun, not for class)
6. Sunshine
7. Good food
8. Toothpaste, shampoo, soap, and laundry detergent
9. Gilmore Girls
10. New opportunities

Have a good holiday!

A Texas Birthday

Last weekend was my friend Shireen's 22nd birthday (woo!). She's from Texas, so naturally she wanted to go out to eat at the Texas Roadhouse in Augusta for peanuts and ribs. This is what ensued:

(side note: for the occasion, the boys did not shave their "moustaches". This is the result...)

YeeHaw to the birthday girl!

So, Texas Roadhouse, thanks for putting up with all 11 of us. We know we were a tough crowd, but you did us well. And Happy Birthday Shireen!!!

Johnson Day

Every fall, Colby students get together with PPD (the Physical Plant Department) in order to do a day of community service on campus, called Johnson Day. This year we participated in Johnson Day activities with Dave (PPD Representative) and the Spanish Club. Our task: clean all campus signs. We got really into it.

Made-to-order doughnuts at Kennebec Café to start the day

SO excited.

What happened to all the raked leaves?

Let's Learn To Cook!

So, my friend Anna is in charge of this thing called International Coffee Hour, and every Friday she is in charge of cooking or baking for the event. So, I've been helping a little bit. Here are pictures of one Friday afternoon's worth of baking: a dip and some caramel/chocolate popcorn. Yum!

I think I'm going to try and teach myself how to cook like Anna because she's really good at it. Maybe that's what I will do over winter break.

Side note: one year ago today, I was at this waterfall. It seems like so long ago, but just like yesterday! Crazy.

A Bicentennial Ball

So, I'm graduating this year (whoa). And I will be part of Colby College's bicentennial class (2013). This year to celebrate the College's 200th birthday, there are a ton of speakers and special events thrown in order to bring the community together and really celebrate. These are pictures from the "Bicentennial Ball"- it was so much fun!

The roommates

Me and the boys

Typical.

HOW COOL IS THE CEILING?

All of us

It was such a good night- despite the rain. I wish all Colby dances could be that classy- a live band, clean dancing, fun music, great friends and food!

Let the Bicentennial celebrations continue!
