A Birthday Celebration: Odysseo

I'm so excited I don't even know if I can write this post. WHAT.

So for Mom's birthday, I got us two last minute tickets to see Odysseo, a show performed by Cavalia. The show was FANTASTIC. It combined two of my favorite things: horses and dance. I don't have the words to describe how amazing it was. Some of the things these riders were able to do with the horses, combined with the acrobatics and the aerialists was SO COOL. The live music, the horsemanship aspects, the artistic elements, the sets. UNREAL. We couldn't take pictures of the performance, and I don't think I even thought about it because I was so engrossed in everything that was going on. But here are some pictures I took before hand and a video from their website.

I want this painting.

This is one of their promo videos. Watch it all the way through. SO COOL.

Cavalia is in Denver through Sunday October 19, and I HIGHLY recommend you go. And spring for the VIP tickets if you can- we didn't and I regret it! The VIP tickets get you a backstage tour and the ability for a Q&A depending on the day, I think.

CrazyLonelyYellow

Have you ever read the short story The Yellow Wallpaper? Well, for dance class, we decided to make an hour long piece (AN HOUR) about the yellow wallpaper that included elements of feeling crazy and even feeling lonely. It was a HUGE project that involved all sorts of projectors and video cameras, spoken text, as well as huge dance numbers. It was so much fun.

Here are some pictures taken backstage while we waited for what seemed like eternity to perform.

elephant JANE comes to town

Remember this post? Well, let me tell you, I've been dancing up a storm this semester, and it's been a BLAST! I'm still not very good at it, but I'm getting better. Anyway, each spring the Colby Dance department brings in a guest choreographer to teach students a full dance in one week (we had like 30 hours of rehearsal in one week...) and then the choreographer brings up his/her company and the students perform with them! So, this year they brought a Colby Alum, Heidi Henderson and it was so fantastic getting to know her.

Here are some pictures if you're curious.

We Grew Up At Midnight

This year, I have challenged myself to do something each month that is 100% out of my comfort zone, and so far it's been going really well! One of the things I did was dance in a student choreographed dance piece (called We Grew Up At Midnight), that we performed on Friday and Saturday night, and it was SO much fun. I loved working with these girls all semester, and am a little bit bummed out that it's over! It's also cool that I was exposed to so many new things I normally would not have experienced at Colby (backstage Runnals? When would I have ever been there?). Anyways, here are a few pictures of the experience:

It was such a fun experience! I hope to do it again next semester. We will see.
